Self-Storage has come of age. You put down your money and you receive your own private self storage cubicle. They vary in quality and price but generally speaking most provide dry, secure self storage for everything from extra furniture to your old comic book collection. In recent years they have popped up like mushrooms after a rainstorm in along the fringes of affluent neighborhoods and near interstate exits. .
A few clever storage companies have found empty former grocery stores or other none premium retail space which can be rented cheap and are converting them to climate controlled self storage centers. These are great for anything with cloth such as furniture that won’t fare well in extreme temperature variations possible at the conventional self storage center. All climate storage centers also tend to have better security and can be used for antiques and artwork. You just must be willing to pay a premium price for this level of self storage. For a few buck a month you can store items that aren’t bothered by weather and temperature changes.
The newest entry in the self storage market is portable onsite storage. They will bring a portable storage box, usually about a third the size of a semi-trailer, to your home, school or work site. You fill it with your stuff then they take it back to their storage facility. Another option, if you’re doing some work on your home and need a place to move some items to get them out of harm’s way, the portable storage folks will place one in your driveway for a few weeks until the work is finished.
